Palisades, Gasometer. Sunday April 22nd.

Once again I arrive to a show fashionably late, only to find the running order has been reversed. So I walk in on Carbs - but not the “post rock bedroom project” I had checked out on bandcamp earlier on, oh no ..these boys are Carbs(-2) :your genuine old skool feedback noisepeddlars like we had way back when ..I only saw two songs but I bought their CD (ok it was only $2) and hope to see em again.

Outright were a surprise, Im not really keen on “modern” hardcore but these guys were either really good at it or, since I liked it , maybe doing it wrong :  not too metal, not too macho (for obvious reasons) and the vocals cut through something special, fantastic energy/attitude/jumping-up-and-down skills, unique “nice person” inter song banter and I really enjoyed their set. I thought I had a great video clip of them bouncing around but the frigging zoom died at the end and when I got home I only had 2 secs of blur…rats. Still have got an excuse to go see em again I guess.

So the Palisades formula is now apparent: a bit of slap guitar followed by a dash of fret tapping, maybe over a reversed sampled guitar loop…bring in the monstrous bass (with this weeks uber-cool t-shirt purchase) and drums then unleash that fucking fingers-down-throat-skinny-gay-junkie-eyed-head-palming singer….songs careering between the ache-ingly beautiful guitar parts and the frenzied skramz of the sections with vox.

Id seen em twice this week and maybe the adrenalin was flowing a tad more at the Old Bar show (more people, more heckling, more mike-cable auto-asphyxia, less on a sunday night) but this was still unbelieveably good…short but V.Sweet. Theyre recording up in brisvegas this week so cant wait to hear the output of that.
